Robe’s definitely famous for delicious seafood and strong fishing industry, so another prestigious seafood award has come at no surprise for the local community.
However, a huge surprise for popular seafood restaurant Sails at Robe after taking out top honours for best seafood restaurant at the recent South Australian Savour Australia HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence in Adelaide.
“It has been a bit of a shock for us,” owner and chef, Adam Brooks, says.
“We won this same award in 2013, and it was a shock then too, but I think we had our best summer, especially staff wise everyone just really worked well together,” he adds.
Adam’s strong connection to Robe and the local fishing industry has always been front and centre, so when he and partner Anna Heffernan decided to open their own restaurant the main focus was always going to be showcasing Robe’s great seafood options.
“I think we have world class produce right here and our aim is to show that to the rest of the world,” he says.
“Being able to provide what people are looking for is something that makes me pretty proud of what we are doing, this is what our town is famous for.
“I am lucky that fishing is in my family and we can get great seafood to put forward which allows us to promote Robe and the region through the food we serve.”
Adam’s keen interest in fishing also helps give Sails the edge it needs when standing out from other seafood restaurants in the State.
Adam and Anna credit the hard work and dedication of their staff, past and present for the success of Sails, and after moving their restaurant this year into a bigger establishment are delighted to be on top again.
“This award reflects all the hard work that our staff have put in, that is what we are so grateful for,” he says.
“I know they are so capable of running our business and they keep the standard so high, we wouldn’t be in this place without them, they won the award.”
The couple is now focusing on keeping their restaurant standard high and their staff well trained.
“For such a small town, we have so many great places to eat, such variety and the standard is very high,” says Anna.
“It’s great to be part of that, Robe’s definitely becoming one of this region’s top food and wine destinations.”
