After being named the ‘fastest moving’ business in South Australia, Clint Buick and his team are precisely where they want to be.
Fast Movers SA recognises South Australia’s most innovative, smart and fastest growing small to medium enterprises from a range of business sectors.
The 31-year-old father of two started the business by himself in January 2013 before taking on a tradesman and apprentice within the first four months. The business has since grown to two office staff and another installer.
Adelaide Precision Glass is a South Australian owned and operated business focusing on luxury glass goods, such as: splashback design and installation; shower screens (framed, frameless, and semi-frameless); pool fencing; and balustrades.
The company turned over $15,000 in the first couple of months of business, and by the third, it reached close to $100,000 in turnover.
After more than a decade in the industry, Clint’s reason for starting his own business came after a few words from a former employer.
“They told me I was ‘replaceable’,” he says.
Now years down the track and with a business of his own, the value Clint has for his staff is quite the opposite.
“No one is replaceable. While you can put another person in that role, they can’t do that role as well as the person you ‘let go’,” he says.
“Staff is the main reason we get to grow, so it’s important to surround ourselves with the right people,” he says.
While his employees are integral to the business, so too is family – especially his wife and two children (pictured in the main headline image).
“I have a very understanding family… you need someone in your corner to say it’s okay for you to do the 90 to 100 hours per week to grow the business,” he says.
Despite earning the title of the ‘fastest growing’ business in the State, Clint will tell you success doesn’t come easy.
Instead, hard work and planning is what drives his thriving business.
“At the start, I sat for two months thinking and asking myself, ‘have I made the right decision?’ In the third month, as other companies around me began to fall, I started to pick up their work,” he says.
“Ever since we opened, the business growth just keeps going. I still sit back every month and it’s hard to take in just how far we’ve come over a short period… it just reinforces we did something right.”
Despite the win, celebrations were put on hold for Clint who had ‘somewhere else to be’.
“It’ll be straight out of the suit and into my filthy tradie clothes,” he laughs.
Adelaide Precision Glass receives a Statewide Super $10,000 cash prize, $15,000 Kain C+C Lawyers services voucher, and a $3,000 BDO Tax and Advisory services voucher.
