Hand painted chocolates, brioche, tarts and macarons… are you drooling yet?

GUEST BLOGGER: Jess Zarnow from Dressed in Copper

These are just a few of the delicious treats available to purchase in Wendy Ashwin’s chocolate and patisserie shop Four Winds Chocolate, located on High Street in Willunga.

Still relatively new to the scene in Willunga, this French inspired store shares its surrounds with eateries such as The Golden Fleece Cafe and Russell’s Pizza. Its walls are donned with turquoise blue and red and white blinds extend over the windows. Hanging baskets overflow with bright flowers and underneath them is an array of freshly baked treats ready to be devoured.

Wendy has been in the baking business for years – it’s just one of the reasons why her shop has taken off with roaring success and become incredibly popular with locals. She baked her goods at the Victor Harbor Markets for years, selling cookies and an array of sweet treats. After years of being in the market scene, she eventually decided to pursue her dreams of opening up a permanent home for her sweets, and next thing you know, Four Winds happened.

The menu at Four Winds Chocolate changes on a weekly basis, but you will always find the favourites. Freshly baked brioches with flavours of chocolate and rhubarb always run out the door, as well as their tarts, salted caramel macarons and colourful chocolates. Each little item displays no fault, with Wendy being a stickler for perfection when it comes to making her sweets. Her delicate chocolates are painted by hand in a variety of colours and come in unique flavours such as Olive Oil, Cardamon and Lime and Raspberry and Lychee. This year you can see plenty of new sweets coming out of Four Winds HQ, from pastries and breads to incredible new chocolate flavours.

After a bumper Christmas season, Wendy is back on deck and on to a new venture just in time for Valentine’s Day. As of 14 February she will be collaborating Justine from the East End Flower Market in Adelaide. You will be able to pre-order bunches of blooms and a selection of glossy red and white salted caramel chocolate hearts – the perfect gift idea for your loved one. The flowers will soon become a regular occurrence at Four Winds, with a small but stunning selection being available in the coming weeks when the store opens for trade.

In the mean time you can find Wendy and the Four Winds Chocolate team every Saturday at 30 High Street, Willunga. They will also be more mobile this year, popping up at several markets around Adelaide. Check their Facebook page and Instagram for more details.
