With winter just around the corner, South Australia’s wine regions offer many a snug places to cosy up with a glass of South Australian red. Here are five wineries with cracking fireplaces and a wide choice of vintage reds to help ward off the winter chills.

McLaren Vale: Maxwell Wines

Set on the top of a hill, Maxwell Wines has views across the vineyards and down to Maxwell’s soon to be famous hedge maze. As you step inside the cellar door you’ll be instantly greeted by the warmth of a traditional open fireplace. Pull up a drift wood throne chair and have one of their staff pour you a glass of their best selling 2014 ‘Silver Hammer’ Shiraz.

One of South Australia’s most known wine labels, Bird in Hand’s cellar door is set to impress. Located just 45 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, Bird in Hand manages to keep a cosy feeling whilst providing ample space for visitors. On entry, take off your winter coat – you won’t need it in this snug cellar door – and grab a glass of the 2013 Merlot.

Barossa Valley: Peter Lehmann Wines
