12 South Australian Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

By Lana Guineay

Mother’s Day is nearly here – this is not a drill. From local lunches to SA-made gifts, we’ve rounded up 12 ways to say thanks, whatever your mum’s style.

The Foodie Mum

Plant 4 Bowden have put together a Mother’s Day luncheon featuring gourmet Middle Eastern grazing plates, decadent deserts, all matched with teas from The Tea Catcher. The only additions that could make this more mother-appropriate are flowers and live music. Which they also have.

Is there anything better than a snack? Trick question. Yes: a collection of snacks, wrapped up and delivered to your door. BoxSAlicious know this, so they have put together specialist gift hampers featuring the best wines, beers, high quality foods and beauty products, all from some of South Australia’s best producers.

You can’t go past chocolate. For anything, ever. But especially Mother’s Day. Haighs Mother’s Day range is impressively drool-worthy, and Charlesworth Nuts have a sweet gift selection too.

You’ll need to pair all that food with some wine. We’d suggest McLaren Vale’s Hither & Yon, where you’ll find an exciting local range of colours, flavours, aromas to suit every taste.

The Art Mum

The Art Gallery of SA is a mum-approved activity any day of the week, but culture-loving mothers will appreciate an art date all the more on May 14. Browse the gallery, or get hands-on with a drawing tour of the current Rodin exhibition, which kicks off at 3pm.

Local contemporary art and design institution Jam Factory offer exhibitions, workshops and an amazing retail store, featuring local makers and designers. Their Rundle Mall shop space is closing down on May 6 – but you can stop by their online shop or make the most of their closing down sale for a distinctive gift.

The Nature Mum

Most mums love blooms, and the Flower Nook put together some pretty sweet bouquets especially for the occasion – they have two great-smelling locations and offer delivery to your mum’s door.

If actually being in nature is more her thing, put on your hiking boots and whisk her off to First Falls. One of Adelaide’s most popular trails, it goes right down into the gorge with spectacular cliffs and waterfalls on the way. Bonus: it’s a relatively easy 1.6 kilometre trail, in case you’re not quite as energetic as your mum.

The Glamorous Mum

Local jewellery designer Naomi Murrell has a handmade and hand-picked selection of jewels, clothing and gifts with a uniquely understated, design-led femininity. One for you, one for mum – we won’t judge.

If artisan scents are your mum’s thing, Adelaide-based Candle Establishment has a luxurious range of candles, from unexpected to everyday, to make everything smell like magical unicorns. Or leather and bourbon. Take your pick.

The DIY Mum

For hands-on, do it yourself mums, its hard to go past Home Hardware (particularly given the sausage sizzles). And if the gift ideas are overwhelming, there’s always a gift card.

The Giving Mum

Mums can be selfless…they’re good like that. Making a donation on your mum’s behalf can be a meaningful way to make a difference this Mother’s Day. From rural foster care, to guide dogs, to SA vegetation, to Oxfam: there are a range of organisations who will appreciate your thoughtful donation as much as your mum.
